Comet C/2025 R2 SWAN Nucleus Fragmentation: Stunning Images from The Virtual Telescope Project (2025)

Unveiling the Secrets of Comet C/2025 R2 SWAN's Fragmentation

Get ready for an astronomical revelation! Comet C/2025 R2 SWAN, a celestial visitor, has undergone a dramatic transformation, and we have the exclusive visuals to prove it.

The Story Unfolds: A Comet's Breakup

Comet C/2025 R2 SWAN, a captivating celestial body, experienced a nucleus breakup, an event rarely witnessed and even more rarely documented. Here, we present a pair of images that capture this extraordinary moment in space.

A Snapshot of the Event: 5 November 2025

The image above is a result of meticulous processing, combining sixteen 120-second exposures captured remotely using the advanced Celestron C14+Paramount ME+SBIG ST-10XME robotic telescope system. This equipment, part of the Virtual Telescope Project in Manciano, Italy, allowed us to reveal both components of the cometary nucleus.

A Hint of Mystery: 6 November 2025

On the following day, with the same telescope but under less optimal conditions, we captured another image. While the detection isn't as clear, there's a subtle hint of the secondary nucleus, leaving us with a lingering question: what caused this fragmentation, and what does it mean for the comet's future?

The Journey Continues

We're not done with this comet just yet! Stay tuned as we continue to observe and unravel the mysteries of Comet C/2025 R2 SWAN. This is just the beginning of an exciting astronomical journey.
